I am directed by the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 20th September, 1941, in which you request a public enquiry into the working of the eva- cuation scheme.

2. I am to inform you that His Excellency has con- sulted his Executive Council on this matter and has decided that your Committee's request cannot be acceded to by this Government, as it is considered that no useful purpose would be served at the present time by the holding of such an enquiry.
